From Synagogue to Church: Converted Brooklyn Houses of Worship

Public Perspectives Exhibition Series

Calvary Pentecostal ChurchBlack-and-white photographs capturing the curious juxtaposition of religious symbols evident on buildings across Brooklyn that were previously synagogues and are now churches. Ellen Levitt and Howard Dankowitz have researched the history and current activities of these buildings to learn about how the past is being remembered and to explore how buildings are recycled as neighborhood demographics change over time.

On view through February 11, 2007.
